For
this assignment, I used Instagram for my "Time Diary." Instagram is
the one app I use all the time. It's mostly because I am a huge sports fan and
love to keep up with the latest news and updates. Since baseball season is
starting, news is breaking left and right, especially during spring training. I
love the videos and pictures the sports teams post, and there is no better
sound than a ball off a baseball bat, so I love those kinds of videos.
The
last four days have been awesome because the content has been great. I've been
on it maybe more than I should have been for the four days of the project, and
the numbers will show, but it's just that time of the year again. I use it the
most when I’m eating some type of meal or just have some down time to sit and
relax. I use it more like a catching-up kind of usage and not really an
addiction type of usage, especially since I don’t really post either. I only
ever use this app on my phone. I know there are ways to use it on the computer,
but it's a lot more complex. As my numbers show, I am capable of being on the
app less, but sometimes I get a little carried away. The habit I get into is that
whenever I don’t know what to do, I go on my phone and just scroll, even if
it’s the same old post that I've seen all day. That is something I want to get
better at, but luckily, during the baseball season, while I am working in the
clubhouse, I am so busy all day long that I don’t have as much time as I do now
to be on Instagram.
On
Saturday and Sunday, I had the lowest Instagram usage. I averaged 50 minutes
total for the four days. 49 minutes on Saturday, 51 on Sunday and Monday, and
52 on Tuesday. Although I see my numbers as being high, it makes me not even
want to pick up my phone again for the rest of the week. Instagram has a neat
setting where you can set the total time you want to be on the app, and the
second you hit that time limit, it kicks you out for the day. As I said
earlier, I only ever go on the app to keep up with the latest news, especially
with baseball season coming up. The Baltimore Orioles are my favorite team and
the team for which I work, and they post the best baseball content out there.
Their posts get me so excited for the season and are the reason why I'm on the
app so much. I don’t really interact with people or posts, and I know some
people would consider that being a stalker, but I am far from that. You can use
Instagram as a type of communication since it has direct messaging as one of
its features, but I still use texting and calling for daily communication.
In conclusion, I really enjoyed this project and didn’t realize how much I was on my phone until I had to do the research and look at the numbers. I hope this project gets me in the habit of trying to be less on my phone. I am looking forward to seeing what other types of projects we may see similar to this one in this course. Below, I am going to attach a screenshot of my bar graph of my four-day results. Hopefully, a visual gives you a better idea than just hearing me say my numbers like I did throughout my diary.
